History of Woodhouse & Classic Clothing

While in high school in Springfield, Ohio, Jerry Woodhouse worked at the Vogue Shop, a local downtown clothing store that offered classic clothing & sportswear. Thus began a long career in the classic clothing industry.

Fresh from college in 1957, Woodhouse joined the University Shop, which had a single store on the Ohio State Campus that offered classic clothing. Over the next 15 years, Woodhouse was instrumental in the management, buying and expansion of 23 University Shops on college campuses in the Midwest & South: Ohio State, Purdue, Miami of Ohio, Alabama and Georgia to name a few.

In 1972 Woodhouse partnered in the opening of a high quality classic clothing store, Woodhouse Lynch in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The store was an immediate success, and led the country in sales per square foot. Woodhouse and his partner hosted many seminars for businessmen on the appropriate wearing of classic clothing.

In 1978, Woodhouse had the opportunity to purchase the historic West Indies Bay Company on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands the manufacturer of St. Johns Bay Rum Products. He then opened the markets to the finest men's clothing stores from coast to coast that offered classic clothing, Brooks Brothers, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and Nieman Marcus to name a few.

For the next 37 years Woodhouse operated the company offering the St. Johns Products not only to the classic clothing stores, but also to local Caribbean stores, to the cruise ship lines, and on the internet. A retail store offering classic sportswear was opened in downtown Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas.

Now, in the 2000 years era, most men's stores offering classic clothing have disappeared. Classic clothing that never goes out of style is now being offered on the internet by WOODHOUSE CLOTHIERS.
